How do I clean and care for my Chili Control Unit?

Recommendations for keeping your Chili Technology system running efficiently for years of great sleep:

    Cleaning Tips for Control Unit

  • Periodically remove and clean dust screen at the intake vent under the handle.
  • Use can of compressed air (or similar) to blow through the intake vent under the handle removing dust and debris.
  • Periodically add one cap full of hydrogen peroxide into the reservoir to keep the circulation system clean. Procedure: Set temperature to 75 degrees F. Remove the reservoir cap and add the Hydrogen Peroxide. LEAVE THE RESERVIOR CAP OFF. The HP will react with the dirt or other foreign particles to clean the system. Once the reaction has stopped (bubbles no longer form), replace the cap, reset the temperature to your desired sleep temperature and enjoy.
  • IMPORTANT: If you have added any other substance to your water reservoir previously (such as vinegar), please flush they system before adding hydrogen peroxide.
How Do I Wash/Clean My Pad?

  • The mattress pads are machine washable on a frontload washing machine. Please secure the extension tail with a rubber band or other means to minimize the risk of it flailing in the spin cycle; this will help to ensure not causing any integrity issues to the male connector in the washing process. After securing the tail, just put your washing machine a gentle cycle (cold water only, I do recommend adding a little OxyClean) and then dry on a delicate cycle or air dry (again, no heat). We do recommend that you wash your pad at the same frequency as you maintain your control unit (refer to our maintenance and cleaning tips for reference Routine Maintenance.
    Operational Tips

  • Insure there is ample space around the control unit for ventilation. The Control unit utilizes fresh air to cool the electronics, so sufficient fresh air is necessary for optimal performance and long life of your system. Clearance of 24 inches on all sides is recommended.
  • Frequently inspect the connection tubes to insure there are no kinks or restrictions that may prevent free flow of the water through your system.

Please feel free to contact our Customer Service with questions or concerns regarding your Chili Technology products.

Failure to care for and perform routine cleaning and maintenance may void warranty.

What should I do if I get an Error Code on my display panel?

Turn off and unplug the unit. Wait 15 minutes, turn the unit on, and reset preferred sleep temperature settings. If the issues persist, note error code, unplug control unit and contact customer service HERE.

Can I use the ChiliPad with an adjustable bed?

Yes, it will work with an adjustable bed, but you will need to purchase a set of extension hoses available for $20 each (CP-20) to allow for the additional movement that the adjustable bed requires.

Will the ChiliPad work on Visco/Memory foam beds?

Yes, Memory foam is comfortable but often considered to be very warm, ChiliPad will be very effective in adjusting the temperature of the sleep surface to a comfortable level. For example, we have the ChiliPad built inside of our ChiliBeds™ already.

What are the red dots to the right of the display screen?

These dots represent the load on the system. For example, one dot means the heating or cooling function is working lightly. Four dots represents full load on the system, for maximum heating or cooling. The system is designed to circulate the water continuously, but the cooling and heating ramps up or down as it is working to reach or maintain the set point. While maintaining the set point, there will likely be only 1 or 2 dots. Keeping plenty of ventilation around the unit will minimize the load on it.

How loud is the ChiliPad?

The control unit is about as loud as a desktop computer fan (40dB, white noise so to speak).

What’s the best temperature to sleep?

The one where you sleep the deepest and longest so you heal naturally and feel great. This is different for each person and often varies by night. Sleep studies show the ideal sleep temperature for optimal rest & recovery is 60-68ºF. But in all honestly it takes about 2-3 weeks to find that sweet spot that works for you, and as the seasons change so will your temperature.

What is the energy requirements of (1) ChiliPad?

The normal operating power is 80 watts, similar to an average light bulb.

How do I drain the pad?

It is difficult to remove ALL of the water from within the tubing. However, you should be able to drain most of it using the following process if you no longer have the water release key that it came with.

  • If possible, hang the pad vertically with the connection tubes at the bottom.
  • Using two pens, pencils or other similar tool, depress the “X” shaped pieces inside the connector end, which will open the valves allowing the water to flow out.
  • If you have a dual pad, repeat process on the 2nd connector to drain both sides.

I can’t find Single Zone Queen – what do I do?

The Single Zone Queen was discontinued from our product line in the Spring of 2012; we are also out of stock and are unable to fulfill any more orders. At this point, I would recommend either our Single Zone Full – CP303 (53×75) or upgrading to the Dual zone Queen – CP314 (60×80, with two control units).

How do I sync my remote with my Chili Control Unit?

  1. For Dual Zone Systems – Only sync one unit and one remote at a time. Make sure second unit and second remote are unplugged and have no batteries.
  2. Sync One Unit + One Remote – Turn Off & unplug your control unit for 5 seconds.
  3. Plug in your control unit and immediately press and hold the “down” ▼ button on the control panel of Control Unit until a digital number appears on the display screen (The Down button needs to be pressed within 5 seconds of plugging in your control unit). Do not power on the Control Unit for this step.*** If you do not see a digital number repeat steps 2 and 3 ***
  4. Once the digital number appears on the display screen of the Control Unit, then on the Remote, press and hold the “up” ▲ and “down” ▼ buttons at the same time until you see a temperature with both the “F” and “C” showing on the control unit display screen.
  5. Next, turn On your Control Unit. Change the temperature on the Remote and press Enter. If you hear a chime, the Remote is now synced to your Control Unit.
  6. Jump in bed and take it for a test drive

Will the ChiliPad™ work with a Tempur-Pedic® or other memory foam mattress?

Yes, the ChiliPad™ covering was designed to stretch at the same rate as the most common mattress. Memory Foam (Heat activated visco-elastic foam) will still provide the supportive benefit but is commonly known to hold heat which is why the ChiliPad is ideal for cooling in this common mattress type. The ChiliBed™ has the heating and cooling built into the mattress and uses memory foam for support.

Is the ChiliPad™ Safety Tested?

The ChiliPad™ is ETL listed, which is an equivalent of UL testing, alternate configurations are also approved for use in Japan, Europe, and Australia.

What is the weight limit?

The ChiliPad™ and ChiliBed™ will operate effectively with a weight range up to 500 lbs per zone. With higher weight ranges the control unit may not reach the maximum temperature range from 46°F (8°C) to 118°F (48°C), but will still provide significant cooling and heating benefits.

What are the dimensions of ChiliPads?

The ChiliPad™ is approximately 3/4″ thick. Measurements are listed below:

  • Single = 30″ x 75″ (0.76m x 1.77m)
  • Twin = 38″ x 75″ (0.97m x 1.91m)
  • Twin XL = 38″ x 80″ (0.97m x 2.03m)
  • Full = 53″ x 75″ (1.35m x 1.91m)
  • Dual Queen = 60″ x 80″ (1.52m x 2.03m)
  • King = 76″ x 80″ (1.93m x 2.03m)
  • California King = 72″ x 84″ (1.83m x 2.13m)

What are the dimensions of the control unit and tubing?

The control unit is 12″W x 11″D x 7″H. The tubes attached to the mattress pad are 4′ in length. 4′ extension tubes are available and sold separately. The remote control takes 2 AAA batteries to operate.

What is the actual temperature range?

The control unit will cool down to 46°F and heat to 118°F, but achieved temperature will vary depending on the environment and heat load.

How durable is the ChiliPad™?

The mattress pad is made from 150 thread count poly cotton material with polyester fill and medical grade silicone tubing. The silicone tubing that circulates the water was chosen because of its strength properties and durabilities. It will not be punctured by animal claws or under normal use.

How long is the electrical cord from unit to electrical socket?

The electrical cord is 8′ long.

Can it be used in a boat, camper or semi truck?

The ChiliPad™ is a great solution to cool/heat your mattress in a boat, camper or semi. It provides an energy efficient option to meet truck idling requirements.

What type of water should be used?

We strongly suggest using distilled water or filtered water. Standard tap water can be used, but may increase sediment buildup. A capful of Hydrogen Peroxide helps keep it clean.

How do you clean the water or avoid sediment buildup?

Hydrogen peroxide can be added each time the water is refilled. We recommend using one capful of hydrogen peroxide (about 1 tablespoon). Please leave the lid off until the it stops fizzing when you put the peroxide in the water. Read our cleaning tips for more information.

What is the pad made of?

The pad is Poly/Cotton fabric with a Polyester filling. The silicone tubing that circulates the water was chosen because of its strength properties and durabilities. It will not be punctured by animal claws or under normal use.

Will you ship internationally?

We will gladly ship internationally. International orders require an additional $200 freight charge. Customers in Australia and New Zealand may order directly from our Australia site at www.ChiliTechnology.com.au. The local distributor, Glen Farebrother, in Sydney can answer questions at 1300 139 350 or glen@sleepsolutions.com.au
.

What are the power details?

The ChiliPad™ uses up to 150 watts per control at peak and about 80 watts under normal use and works with common North American 110V power systems.

Should I still use a mattress protector?

We recommend a mattress protector be placed between the mattress and the ChiliPad™ to protect the mattress warranty. In rare cases (temperature differences of greater than 25F) the ChiliPad™ can experience some condensation near the circulation tubes.

Will the ChiliPad™ and ChiliBed™ automatically maintain the set temperature?

Yes, when the power is turned on, the ChiliPad™ and ChiliBed™will return to the last set temperature.

Does it help with hot flashes?

Yes, this product is Doctor recommended to reduce the symptoms of a hot flash in both severity and duration.

Why do I need it for my whole body when just my head sweats?

Although many consumers feel the temperature problem at night has to do with their head getting too hot, the temperature build up is actually all over the body and just vented at the head area. When the whole body temperature is properly regulated, excess sweating will cease.

Will the pad change the feel of my mattress?

No, we have chosen materials to match the stretch rate of the sheets and mattress ticking used on the most popular mattresses.

Will I be able to feel the tubes in the mattress?

It is possible to feel the circulation tubes with your fingers if you search for them, but they cannot be felt when laying on the mattress. The silicone tubing is soft enough that it allows for a comfortable sleeping surface while still allowing water to pass through the tubes.

How much noise does it make?

The noise level is low. The only audible components are a fan that is similar to a desktop computer and a water pump that contributes as much noise as a small aquarium pump. The noise typically becomes part of the room’s ambient noise within two weeks, similar to an air conditioning unit.
